Advice for first time fathers…

So, most of the time we think you men have it easy – you don’t have to go through 9 months of pregnancy and all the physical discomfort that comes along with it…weight gain, pain and morning sickness to name a few! But becoming a father figure to someone and ultimately becoming a support system to someone for the rest of their life, is a big task that should not be underestimated. Along with becoming important to this baby, father’s also face the pressure of supporting their wives during a testing time (both emotionally and physically trying). Chicco have put together some tips and advice for first time fathers to try and make this all a little easier!

Let’s not forget though, that this month is Father’s Day. Fathers are given their own day so that your role as a father can be celebrated and so that the older children or mums can take this opportunity to spoil you!

How to help your wife

Men are very often faced with some overwhelming realities, these include having to provide for their child so that he or she grows up to be a strong, independent and educated adult. Another being, how the relationship between him and his wife will be affected. Women naturally take on the care giver role and sometimes forget to nurture their relationship with their husbands. Men can help by being upfront and honest with their wives, putting time aside every week for alone time with their partner and of course being supportive with all duties involving the house and the baby.

Quality time with your baby

Whilst quality time with your wife is important, so is time with your baby! It is very easy for work to get in the way of this time – but don’t let it! Make time for your baby because before you know it, he or she will be out the home and unable to spend every waking moment with you.

Sometimes men feel left out during the process of pregnancy and child birth – their wife gets to carry the child and therefore has an unspoken physical connection to the baby already, she also gets to breast feed your baby and then still gets to attend baby showers too!

Father and baby time

One special thing fathers can do to have special time and memories with their child is to have a few special photographs taken with their little girl or boy.

Another thing you as a dad could make your “thing” is doing the shopping for all the baby gear that comes along with having children…you’ll need to pick a car seat, toys, bottles and loads of other bits and pieces, so good luck with the shopping and enjoy the 21st of  June, it’s your day!
